The Lucknow Super Giants were able to qualify for the playoffs in their first two seasons, but they struggled in the elimination round and lost in the 2022 and 2023 eliminations.

But with KL Rahul, captain and talisman, involved, everyone is concerned about the LSG. The Indian player had an injury midway through the competition the previous season, forcing Krunal Pandya to assume captaincy. Rahul’s quadriceps had strained again during the first Test match against England in Hyderabad. KL Rahul made the decision to sit out the remaining games despite the expectation that he would join the Indian side by the third game.

However, LSG will have Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies and Quinton de Kock of South Africa in case Rahul is unable to hold wickets.

After being traded, Devdutt Padikkal may begin the innings, allowing Rahul to take his place at the top of the batting order and perhaps try out for the Indian squad before the T20 World Cup. However, others like Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, and Krunal will want to keep their employment.

In terms of bowlers, Mark Wood was replaced by Shamar Joseph of the West Indies when England withdrew him. When given the opportunity, Naveen-ul-Haq also wants to demonstrate his flexibility.

Along with Mohsin Khan and Yash Thakur, Shivam Mavi also participates and is a viable choice. This season, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi will be essential to LSG once again.

Andy Flower was replaced as head coach of LSG by Justin Langer, while Gautam Gambhir left to become a consultant for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

How They Lost Their Last Time

With eight wins, five defeats, and 17 points during the regular season, LSG placed third on the points table and advanced to the playoffs. Despite finishing the season with a good net-run rate of 0.284, they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians in the elimination round.

Top Players to Keep an Eye on

After a disappointing season the previous year, retiring international standout Quinton de Kock would seek to live up to his name and reputation. It would stink to see Kyle Myers replace him after four games with 143 runs scored. The wicketkeeper-batter played in 12 SA20 games in 2024, averaging a meager 19.36. For Quinton de Kock, the 2024 IPl season may be the make-or-break moment.

Nicholas Pooran: The West Indian star, who is the vice captain for LSG this season, will want to carry on his good run of form with the bat and the gloves in the IPL. Playing middle order for LSG the previous season, Pooran amassed 358 runs with a remarkable strike rate of 172.95 in 15 games. In the SA20, he averaged 43.00 with a strike-rate of 159.25 in 2024. He also hit 137 runs off 55 deliveries in the Major League Cricket Championship game.

KL Rahul : The National Cricket Academy has given Rahul the all-clear to play, but they have cautioned him not to take wickets in the first few games. It will also be intriguing to see how he tackles his innings if he chooses to lower himself in the batting order. especially for someone who, in spite of his plenty of runs, is often criticized for his strike rate.

Quinton De Kock (wk), Devdutt Padikkal, Nicolas Pooran, Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Shivam Mavi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Ravi Bishnoi, and Amit Mishra (SUB) are the members of the LSG’s strongest playing eleven.

Full Squad: Amit Mishra, Arshin Kulkarni, Ashton Turner*, Ayush Badoni, David Willey*, Deepak Hooda, Devdutt Padikkal, K Gowtham, KL Rahul ©, Krunal Pandya, Kyle Mayers*, M Siddharth, Marcus Stoinis*, Mayank Yadav, Mohd. Arshad Khan, Mohsin Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq*, Nicholas Pooran*, Prerak Mankad, Quinton de Kock*, Ravi Bishnoi, Shamar Joseph*, Shivam Mavi, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh.

Schedule for the Lucknow Super Giants

RR vs. LSG – Jaipur, March 24

Lucknow, March 30: LSG vs. PBKS

April 2: Bengaluru RCB vs. LSG
